CHARLOTTE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A three-year-old is dead and three adults are recovering from injuries after a man allegedly ran them down while out for a walk on Friday night in Eaton County’s Delta Township, then opened fire.
The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office said they arrested 21-year-old Alexander Lamar Banks, Jr. on several charges, including 1st Degree premeditated murder. He was arraigned on Tuesday.

Deputies said a family was walking in the area when the suspect’s vehicle struck them. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and fired numerous shots toward the family. While the child was pronounced dead at the scene, the 36-year-old father and 33-year-old mother walking with her were seriously injured and taken to the hospital. A 72-year-old bystander who tried to help them was also attacked and seriously injured.
Authorities say Banks told them he carried out the attacks because of online threats. Several media outlets reported that Banks told police the threats told him “he had to kill someone to save his family.” Allegedly, that triggered Banks to drive around the neighborhood and target the family.
