LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Republican State Rep. Bryan Posthumus (R-Cannon Township) is questioning the validity of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s trip to Italy.
Posthumus posted videos and photos of Whitmer while she attended the Winter Olympics events in Italy. In addition, Posthumus posted a video of Whitmer ringing a cowbell as the U.S. Olympic women’s hockey team won a game. He also posted a photo of Whitmer posing with U.S. Olympic athletes.

“Michigan’s governor is everywhere lately — except in her office,” Posthumus posted on Feb. 19 with a picture of Whitmer with the athletes. “She suddenly needed an ‘economic development’ trip to Italy in order to ‘promote’ MI — as if we’re the new Avengers movie. Then the pictures came out. Your tax dollars at ‘work.’”
After posting the video of Whitmer at the hockey game, Posthumus wrote: “Hey, Madam Governor:
How’s the ‘trade mission’ going? The moment she returns, I hope every journalist in this state asks ‘how much did it cost’ until we get an answer. This is simply an insult to taxpayers.”

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) stated what Whitmer would be doing on her trip to Italy.
“Governor Gretchen Whitmer transitions Michigan’s ongoing European investment mission from Germany to Italy, continuing Team Michigan’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships, attract new investment, and reinforce the state’s leadership in defense, manufacturing, and national security,” the MEDC stated in a press release. “Building on productive engagements with allies and industry leaders in Germany, Governor Whitmer and the Michigan delegation will continue the mission in Italy, where they will meet with Italian business, government, and industry leaders to highlight Michigan’s competitive advantages in defense, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and mobility, while advancing opportunities for job creation and long-term economic growth.”
