WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – Antisemitism and the spread of radical Islam pose a serious problem for most Americans, according to a recent survey from Napolitan News Source. These numbers come as the FBI classified the March 12, 2026 attack on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield a terrorist act motivated by Hezbollah’s militant ideology, officials said Monday.

Numbers released on March 28 from Napolitan shows that 72% of voters say antisemitism is a serious problem in the U.S. currently, and 35% say it’s very serious. The poll of 1,000 registered voters conducted online from March 23-24 marks a 19% increase since January 2022 but tracks with Napolitan’s most recent 2025 numbers.
Additionally, 61% of registered voters say they’re concerned about the spread of radical Islam in America, while 29% say they’re very concerned. The poll showed three-quarters of Republicans are concerned compared to the 51% of Democrats.

For Michiganders, this study comes as the Jewish community continues to recover from the terrorist attack on Temple Israel by a man with Hezbollah ties. According to FBI Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Runyan, Ayman Ghazali of Dearborn Heights conducted a search of Hezbollah, Iran, and search terms like “what is the largest gathering of Israelis in Michigan?” In addition, Ghazali looked up “what time is the Trump rally in Michigan?” and “What time is lunch at Temple Israel?”
Runyan said Ghazali sent videos to his sister in Lebanon and his ex-wife, saying “I have booby-trapped my car. God willing, I will kill as many of them as I possibly can.” He then rammed his vehicle into Temple Israel and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a shootout with security. The explosives in Ghazali’s vehicle sparked a fire, and dozens of law enforcement officers were treated for smoke inhalation, but none of the 140 students and staff at the synagogue were hurt.
The FBI said it has not independently verified if Ghazali was a member of Hezbollah.
