CHEBOYGAN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Residents in Cheboygan remain in “ready, set, go” mode on Tuesday morning as water levels continue to rise and threaten a dam failure.
Water flowing over the dam on the Cheboygan River has continued to inch towards the top since Friday, and more rain will likely force residents to evacuate.

Meanwhile, the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office provided an area of potential flooding in case of dam failure.
As of Monday, officials said water levels reached the “ready” mark of the emergency “ready, set, go” warning system. The “ready” designation means residents should prepare a go-bag filled with medications and important documents. In addition, residents should secure outdoor items, move valuables to higher levels, monitor official updates, review the family plan, and be ready to act.
The “set” step is activated when the water reaches six inches below the top of the dam. It should prompt residents to pack and plan for family and pets, and prepare vehicles. The “go” step is activated when the water reaches one inch below the top of the dam. Official evacuation orders will be given through the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) emergency alert on their phone.
