SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – According to The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Natural Resources Division, the oil spill at the McKay Bay boat launch has largely been contained.

Oil booms have been deployed to prevent the spill from migrating further into sensitive wetlands; staff will monitor the situation daily.
Sault Tribe Natural Resources Division received word of the spill around 5:45 pm on Thursday, April 16. Staff immediately contacted local and tribal law enforcement and coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard on containment and cleanup efforts.
An investigation into the cause of the spill is ongoing. The boat launch remains closed until further notice; the public should stay away from the area.
