SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Soo Locks are open again after an accidental anchor drop triggered a five-hour closure on Wednesday.

U.S Army Corps of Engineers spokesperson Carrie Fox said the American Century accidentally dropped its anchor as it headed into the Poe Lock around 1:00 p.m. The anchor drop forced the ship to back out.

The Corps did not find significant damage and reopened the Poe Lock around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night. Thirteen vessels saw their travel times delayed. The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Northern Great Lakes is investigating; an underwater follow up inspection of the Poe Lock needs to be conducted.
