WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett (R-Michigan) supports President Donald Trump’s efforts in Iran but he doesn’t want any troops sent to the region.

In a press release to constituents on Thursday, Rep. Barrett discussed the newly introduced Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF). According to Rep. Barrett, AUMF would “give President Trump the congressional authority to stop Iran and its terrorist proxies from developing a nuclear weapon without putting American boots on the ground or engaging in nation building.”

Rep. Barrett, a U.S. army veteran, said his plan would support the Trump administration’s goals of defeating Iran’s nuclear weapons program, while providing a strict July 30 deadline for the end of the war to prevent an endless occupation.

The first-term Congressman added, “I’ve lost too many friends on the battlefield to let America get dragged into another endless war with no exit strategy or defined mission objective.”

Barrett flipped Michigan’s 7th Congressional District in 2024 when then-Representative Elissa Slotkin won her bid for U.S. Senate.
