AAA predicts more than 1.3 million Michiganders will travel at least 50 miles from home during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Those numbers mark the second-highest forecast on record for the holiday period.
However, equipment and temporary shifts or shoulder closures may remain in place.
State Transportation Director Bradley C. Wieferich encouraged Michiganders to shift into safety mode. “While we’ve been able to pull back the barrels as much as we can for this kickoff to the busy America 250 summer travel season, some work zones must remain in place. We implore all drivers to be patient in work zones and follow all posted signs in those work zones.”
