ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – After months of public sparring and growing concerns from patients, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Michigan Medicine announced they have reached a new long-term contract agreement.

The agreement means Michigan Medicine’s hospitals, clinics, physicians and affiliated facilities will remain in-network for Blue Cross members beyond the June 30 contract deadline. Had negotiations failed, hundreds of thousands of patients could have faced significantly higher out-of-network costs or been forced to find new providers.

Details remain under wraps.

Neither side has released the financial terms of the deal. Negotiators will continue working through final contract details in the coming weeks.

The deal ends a high-profile dispute that included warnings to patients, public accusations over reimbursement rates, and fears that access to some of Michigan’s most specialized medical care could be disrupted. For now, Blue Cross members can continue seeing their Michigan Medicine providers without interruption.
