MILFORD, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – President Donald Trump touted his economic victories on Monday and stumped for Republican candidates almost one week before Michigan’s primary.

Trump spoke at the General Motors Proving Ground in Milford. He told the crowd of auto workers that he’s done more for them than their parents have. “Those people love Trump because I’ve done more for you than your parents. OK, your parents are good. I’m not going to knock your parents, but I have been better to you than your parents. That I can tell you,” he said. It’s the president’s signature tongue-in-cheek way of saying the U.S. is standing on strong economic ground ahead of the November midterms.

Conservative radio commenter Steve Gruber shared on social media that the entire facility was packed with people. “If they think that the auto workers are with the Democrats or the rank & file union workers with the Democrats, I think they’re sadly mistaken,” Gruber said. “This is all union workers. This is all automotive people, by and large. It’s a remarkable crowd.”

The president came to Michigan to stump for Republicans ahead of the Aug. 4 primary election. He invited his endorsed gubernatorial candidate, Congressman John James up on stage. He is running against businessman Perry Johnson in the GOP primary.

In addition, Trump backed former Congressman Mike Rogers. He is running unopposed for the Republican nomination in this year’s open U.S. Senate race. Rogers is expected to be in a close race against the winner of the hotly contested Democratic primary between Rep. Haley Stevens and Abdul El-Sayed.
