GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A Honduran man who had been deported twice and is wanted for murder in another country has been arrested in Michigan.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan said 30-year-old Michael Jamblyck Costly Bennett was arraigned last week in federal court and remains in custody.

Agents arrested Bennett during a traffic stop in Taylor. A records check revealed he was in the United States illegally and was wanted abroad for murder. Agents also found fraudulent documents, including counterfeit Social Security and permanent resident cards, in his possession.

According to federal officials, Bennett had previously been removed from the United States twice.

Acting Chief Patrol Agent Javier Geronimo Jr. said Bennett’s arrest highlights the importance of immigration enforcement.”We will enforce our immigration law at and beyond our borders to remove dangerous foreign nationals who attempt to hide within our communities,” Geronimo said. He added, “Our agents build strong law enforcement partnerships and exercise the utmost vigilance while utilizing every tool at our disposal to ensure that violent criminals—regardless of where they originate—are held accountable and prevented from threatening the safety of the American public.”

The arrest is part of Operation Take Back America, a U.S. Department of Justice initiative aimed at “stopping illegal immigration, eliminating Cartels and TCOs (Transnational Criminal Organizations), and ending illegal trafficking of dangerous drugs and human beings.”
