LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – GOP gubernatorial candidate John James is expected to announce state Rep. Jay DeBoyer (R-Clay Township) as his running mate.
Sources tell Michigan News Source that the second-term St. Clair County representative will join James on the ticket. Rep. DeBoyer has served as chairman of the House Oversight Committee. He has led efforts to investigate potential fraud within the Whitmer administration, including allegations of election-related fraud involving matters overseen by Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, who is the Democratic nominee for governor.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer cannot seek another term due to term limits.
Michigan Republican Party rules require James to submit the name of his running mate by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14. James’ pick will be voted on by convention delegates during a meeting Aug. 22.
Benson has not announced her running mate yet.
