LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Trump administration is charting a course for transportation upgrades in Michigan.

Republican Congressman Tom Barrett welcomed U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to Michigan on Thursday, where they met with local leaders and workers. The officials held a roundtable with local leaders, toured Capital Region International Airport and visited Dean Transportation in Lansing.

The first-term congressman said transportation issues have been a top priority while in office. He said he secured $15.3 million in funding for Michigan infrastructure projects.

“Whether flying across the country or driving to work across town, mid-Michiganders deserve safe, reliable transportation,” said Barrett. “I’m proud to have Secretary Duffy in Lansing to hear about the work our communities are putting in to fix our roads and bridges to continue making transportation safer and smoother.”

Duffy praised Barrett’s efforts.

“Michiganders are fortunate to have Representative Barrett advocating on their behalf in Congress,” he said. “His leadership has helped deliver vital funding for aviation infrastructure projects, including an overhaul of LAN’s air traffic control system.”

Duffy’s Michigan visit also extended to Grand Rapids. On Wednesday, Duffy met with Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga and toured Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Among other things, they discussed air traffic control modernization.

Huizenga also touted the Working Families Tax Cuts, which was signed into law as part of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” on July 4, 2025. Huizenga said the new law “put more money back in the pockets of hardworking Americans…[and] made significant investments in air travel safety.”
