LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is in South Korea on her fourth publicly announced international trip this year.

Whitmer’s office said she is leading a trade mission focused on semiconductors, robotics, mobility and shipbuilding. The delegation includes Michigan Economic Development Corporation CEO Quentin Messer Jr.

On Tuesday, Whitmer announced that Hansae Mobility USA Manufacturing LLC, a subsidiary of South Korean automotive components manufacturer Hansae Mobility Co. Ltd., plans to invest more than $93.2 million and create 102 jobs by expanding its operations in Monroe County’s Chesterfield Township.

“Michigan is on the move and open for business, competing for and winning big projects in next-generation industries like auto manufacturing,” Whitmer said in a statement.

Separately, the Michigan Attorney General’s Office is investigating the administration of a $20 million state grant to Global Link International, which was overseen by MEDC. In May, Attorney General Dana Nessel charged Global Link founder Fay Beydoun, a Whitmer donor, with 16 felonies.

MEDC said participating businesses are paying their own travel expenses. MEDC said no taxpayer dollars are funding the trip.
