GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A plane reportedly crashed near County Road 633 and Blair Townhall Road in Grand Traverse County on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews are at the scene. Grand Traverse 911 says the aircraft went down near the intersection and they are asking people to avoid the area.

Social media posts have described the aircraft as military aircraft, possibly an F-16. However, authorities have not confirmed the type of aircraft involved. Early reports also indicate that everyone aboard the aircraft ejected, although it remains unconfirmed whether one or two people were on board.

Wendy Szatkowski Sobeck posted on Facebook: “We are only a few houses down, on the corner of 633/Blair Town Hall Rd. We heard the crash and explosion and ran out in the yard to see what happened. My husband drove down there before emergency vehicles got there. Our neighbor said he saw 2 pilots parachute out and the plane crash. He said it was a military plane, but I don’t know that for sure. Stuff continued to explode. It missed the house and their camper in the yard and hit the empty field, thank God.”

Grand Traverse County Emergency Management originally issued a shelter in place order for County Rd. 633 from Jefferson PL to Blair Townhall Rd. Due to the plane crash and told people to “Shelter indoors, close windows/vents. Follow instructions from emergency personnel. More information to follow. This shelter in place applies to residents in the indicated area ONLY.” However, now they are issuing an evacuation order for anyone living within one mile of the site.
