LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Democrats are crying foul after federal agents searched Democratic Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home Monday. Suddenly, they are finding that government investigations of politicians are deeply troubling.

Dingell Sounds the Alarm

Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Dingell condemned the raid, calling it “unprecedented, but unfortunately not surprising.”

She accused President Donald Trump of repeatedly targeting Omar with hateful rhetoric, contributing to death threats and violence.

Tlaib Accuses Trump Administration of Weaponizing Federal Law Enforcement

Democratic Michigan U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib also took aim at the Trump administration, describing the Department of Homeland Security’s conduct as that of a “fascist police state.” She went on to declare, “This president should not be able to weaponize the federal government against political enemies” – a criticism that comes after years of Democratic-led investigations, lawsuits and impeachment proceedings targeting Trump.

What Was the Raid About?

Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a judge-authorized search warrant on Monday, October 12 as part of an ongoing criminal investigation reportedly involving Omar’s immigration paperwork, including documents completed decades ago when her family entered the United States. Federal officials have not publicly disclosed specific allegations or announced charges. Omar denies wrongdoing and calls the investigation political intimidation.

Remember Mar-a-Lago?

When FBI agents searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in August 2022 over classified documents, Democrats had a considerably different reaction.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared, “No person is above the law.”

Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib echoed that sentiment, insisting Trump should face accountability and repeating, “No one is above the law.”

Even Omar used those exact words during Trump’s first impeachment proceedings in 2019. And also after his 2023 indictment.

Apparently, that popular Democratic slogan comes with an expiration date – or perhaps a party affiliation.
