LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Got a medicine cabinet full of expired prescriptions or leftover pills collecting dust? Michigan State Police (MSP) is offering residents a chance to clean house while keeping potentially dangerous medications out of the wrong hands.

All 31 MSP posts across Michigan will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents can drop off unwanted or expired prescription pills for safe disposal, no questions asked. All collected medications will be destroyed.

However, not everything in the medicine cabinet qualifies. Liquids, inhalers, patches and syringes will not be accepted.

MSP Director Col. James F. Grady II said properly disposing of unused medications helps prevent prescription drug misuse, protects the environment and keeps dangerous substances away from those who shouldn’t have them.

Can’t make it Saturday? No problem. MSP posts also accept unwanted prescription drugs anonymously Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays. Residents can find their nearest participating location at Michigan.gov/MSPPosts.
