LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Democrats will maintain their commanding 6–1 majority on the Michigan Supreme Court following Tuesday’s election victories by incumbent Justices Megan Cavanagh and Noah Hood.
With 81% of votes counted as of 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Cavanagh led the field with 34.1% of the vote, followed by Hood with 29.5%, according to unofficial results from the Associated Press.

Although Michigan Supreme Court elections are officially nonpartisan, candidates are nominated by political parties. Both Cavanagh and Hood were nominated by Democrats, defeating Republican-backed challengers Warren and Morse-Bills – as well as Howe and White, who were nominated by the U.S. Taxpayers Party of Michigan.
The results preserve the Democratic-nominated majority on Michigan’s highest court, ensuring the party’s nominees retain their strong advantage in deciding cases involving state laws, elections and constitutional disputes.
