LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Democrat Eli Savit, the Washtenaw County prosecutor, defeated Republican Doug Lloyd, the Eaton County prosecutor, in Michigan’s attorney general race, according to the Associated Press.
Savit was first elected county prosecutor in 2020 and took office in January 2021. His victory joins those of fellow Democrats Jocelyn Benson and Garlin Gilchrist, who were elected governor and secretary of state, respectively.

Savit will succeed Attorney General Dana Nessel in January. Nessel, who cannot seek another term because of term limits, has joined numerous legal challenges to the Trump administration.
Savit said his campaign was fueled by young voters concerned about their future who wanted “an attorney general who would represent the people and not the powerful.”
