The Washington D.C.-based firm Wilmer Hale is investigating on behalf of the university. A formal complaint made to the U of M Equity, Civil Rights and Title 9 Office claims head coach Mel Pearson instructed students to lie on their COVID-19 tracing forms last year before the NCAA Tournament. Michigan withdrew from the tournament.
The complaint also claims Pearson and Director of Hockey Operations Rick Bancroft discriminated against female staffers. Wilmer Hale also investigated claims against the late Michigan team doctor Robert Anderson who was accused of abusing numerous athletes during his tenure. That investigation led to a $490 million settlement.
There has been no comment from the university to this point.
