SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Friday is your chance to see Great Lakes Freighters up close and personal with the Annual Engineers Day Celebration at the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie. 

Since 1975, the last Friday in June has been celebrated as Engineers Day in The Soo. It’s set aside as a day of celebrating the work that local engineers do all year long to keep the Soo Locks running.

Thousands will be in town for this once-a-year chance to walk across the Lock wall and stand between The MacArthur Lock and the Poe Lock. Normally, it’s an area open to only workers the rest of the season.
