DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – A Detroit man who spent years in prison for a crime he did not commit is now giving back to people in his community.

Davontae Sanford was released from prison in 2016 after being wrongfully convicted in the murder of four people in 2007.

He was awarded $7.5 million dollars in a settlement with the city and on Monday he paid it forward in Detroit by purchasing $25,000 worth of gas for women and older men in the city.

Sanford says the people of Detroit had his back and he wanted to do something for them.
