GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Calvin University is helping students launch real businesses with a new startup incubator.

The Calvin Start Up Garage was made possible by a $500,000 donation by Calvin alumnus Jon VerLee.

He will serve as the director of the Start Up Garage for the next four years.

Currently, it is available only to Calvin students to start but VerLee hopes to expand it across West Michigan over time.

Students who participate will be able to apply for $2,000 to start their business, and Calvin University will connect them to potential investors.

The incubator will host competitions where students can pitch their business ideas and ask for seed funding.
