GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Despite a pending application for a federal grant to reopen the Palisades Nuclear Plant in Southwest Michigan, a public meeting on its decommissioning plan will be held on Thursday.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will lead the meeting to address the decommissioning plan for the plant. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lake Michigan College South Haven campus.

Earlier this month, Governor Gretchen Whitmer sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Energy in support of Holtec International’s application for a federal grant to save the Palisades Nuclear Facility.

Whitmer said that keeping the plant open would keep energy costs low and shore up domestic energy production.
