FLINT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Students at Kettering University are working to make school buses safer.
They are Kettering University students are working with Navistar to develop cheap and reliable artificial intelligence (AI) that will make school busses safer.

The AI would be able to tell bus drivers how many kids are on the bus and when it is safe to open and close bus doors in real time.
Once fully implemented, the technology could detect smoke and alert the driver, and even detect human behavior, like bullying.
The students are using refurbished cell phones as a way to keep costs down.
