LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – In a crowded field of 11 candidates, failed Michigan GOP Attorney General candidate Matt DePerno got the nod from former president Donald Trump on his TruthSocial account on Friday night to be the next Michigan Republican Party Chair. Trump had also endorsed him previously when he was vying for the nomination to be the Republican AG candidate, which is also decided by the Republican precinct delegates in the state.

Trump’s statement about DePerno read, “From the beginning, the Great Lakes State has been so important to the America First movement. Michigan built America, then bad politicians with bad trade deals tore Michigan apart. Sadly, the radical Democrats have taken control of the State and are working hard to destroy it forever. Republicans in Michigan must unite and work together if they want to save Michigan. We must start by supporting Matt DePerno for Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party. He is the only candidate running who can get the job done!”

Trump went on to say, “Matt is tough and will not back down from the fight. He’s a smart lawyer who knows how to win. No one has done more to fight for election integrity. Perhaps most importantly, Matt knows that his number one job is uniting the party! He is the only candidate who has a proven background on election integrity, fundraising, party unity and has my complete trust. It is critical that we come together as a Party and focus on 2024 and beyond. I cannot think of anybody who I trust more and look forward to working with, and WINNING, than Matt, who has my Complete and Total Endorsement for the Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party.”

DePerno also received the endorsement of MyPillow’s Mike Lindell back at the end of December. The Detroit News reported Lindell as saying that the other candidates should stand down and DePerno would “prioritize raising money, beating Democrats and fighting for election integrity.”

DePerno, a Kalamazoo attorney, is running alongside Co-Chair candidate, Garrett Soldano, who was a failed Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate in the Republican primary, losing to Tudor Dixon.

Also running for the MIGOP chair are Scott Aughney, Kent Boersema, Drew Born, Lena Epstein, Michael Farage, Mark Forton, JD Glaser, Scott Greenlee, Kristina Karamo and Billy Putman. DePerno and Karamo have been pointed to as being the top two candidates by The Detroit News and other media outlets. Greenlee recently received the endorsement of Ted Nugent.

The Michigan GOP chair will be decided by GOP precinct delegates at the Republican convention in Lansing that will be taking place on February 17th and 18th.
