CHEBOYGAN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The 2023 sturgeon season wrapped up in just one hour and six minutes.

That’s how long it took the six sturgeon, which marked the season limit, to be speared in Cheboygan County.

More than 800 anglers hit the ice on Saturday during the Black Lake Sturgeon Shivaree.

Jerry Perrin caught the largest sturgeon which earned him the crown and the title of “Sturgeon King.”

Perrin’s sturgeon weighed 35-pounds and was 55.5 inches long.

If you’re keeping track, this year’s sturgeon season was twice as long as last years. The 2022 season wrapped after just 36 minutes.
