LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids), and House Speaker Joe Tate (D-Detroit) have agreed on a plan to deliver “the largest tax cut in decades to all taxpayers in Michigan.” The cut comes as part of the Lowering MI Costs Plan, which Whitmer announced during her State of the State address on January 25.

“Today, we are excited to share details on the Lowering MI Costs plan,” Whitmer, Brinks, and Tate said. “Under the Lowering MI Costs plan, we will end the retirement tax to save retirees $1,000 per year on average, immediately cut taxes for families making the least to put $3,150 back in their pockets each year, and send inflation relief checks to help every taxpayer in Michigan.”

Democrats hold a majority in both the Michigan House and Senate, but the plan has not yet cleared the legislature. Whitmer, Brinks, and Tate concluded that “with bipartisan support Michiganders will see more money in their bank accounts this year.”
