POINTIAC, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – An Oakland County doctor has been indicted on federal fraud charges.

Dr. Sangita Patel has been indicated on healthcare fraud charges for submitting more than $1 million in false claims in which she received $448,000.

Patel would have someone call patients for telehealth services and then bill them as if she had seen the patients. In addition, she prescribed 90% of the patients with Schedule II Controlled Substances. Those drugs are the highest risk for abuse.

Patel allegedly accepted cash for prescription drugs. The healthcare fraud charge is a 10-year felony.
