DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source)-Detroit’s Demolition Department officials want their budget doubled in the 2024 fiscal year to help eliminate blight from the city. This request would raise it’s budget to over 21-million-dollars. There are eight thousand residential structures slated for demolition and officials say it’s important to maintain blight remediation efforts to keep it from getting this high again. Part of the increase will cover contractual staff currently funded from bond dollars that will run out soon. The city council can make changes to the budget before it gets adopted on April 10th
