Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the Michigan Office of Mobility & Electrification (IFME), and the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) made the announcement. Whitmer said “Michigan is winning the battery and clean energy race.”

Whitmer has pushed for electric vehicle technology in recent months. The announcement comes on the heels of the Michigan Senate Appropriations narrow vote which approved $175 billion for Chinese-linked Gotion’s future electric battery plant in Big Rapids. There are also possible connections between Gotion and the Taliban.

In addition, funding for the CATL plant in Marshall is also linked to Chinese interests.
