“It carries well here. I noticed it just shagging BP. It puts an extra few feet on it when you’re tracking it. When it goes up, it takes a while to come down here,” said Marisnick.

Detroit had 12 hits on the day as eight of the 11 batters in the game recorded a hit. Matt Manning went five innings for the win with four strikeouts on five hits and four earned runs. Five pitchers were used after that as Tyler Alexander had three strikeouts and Jason Foley two strikeouts.

Detroit manager A.J. Hinch said, “It’s like a Coors Field special. It never ends. Fortunately for us, we hung in there with some really big swings. You never feel comfortable and the score kind of shows it. They chipped away and played the whole game. We just ended up with more swings than they did. That’s a crazy game.”

The Tigers opened the game with a 4-0 lead on Baez grand slam in the first inning. Colorado scored two in the second but Carpenter hit a 381-foot three-run home run in the third for a 7-2 lead. Rogers made it 8-2 in the fourth with the Tigers’ third home run of the game. Colorado cut the lead to four with two more in the fourth, 8-4, and then made it a two-run game in the sixth, 8-6.

Torkelson posted the fourth home run of the game with a 397-foot shot to left center field to put the lead at four, 10-6. In the eighth inning, Marisnick completed the game with the second grand slam and fifth Tiger home run of the game pushing the score to 14-6. Colorado scored three in the eighth to come within five, 14-9, but Foley closed the door in the ninth inning on the Rockies with two strikeouts as Detroit won.

Detroit will have Monday off and then will host Oakland on July 4th at 6:40 p.m.
