EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan State University’s Board of Trustees chair Rema Vassar is pushing back against allegations that she violated the board’s rules of conduct and ethics.

Fellow board member Brianna Scott outlined her allegations in a seven-page letter and has called for Vassar’s removal from the position. Scott, who has support from other board members, accused Vassar of bullying university members and administrators. Vassar responded and said the allegations are untrue.

“At a time where we have a responsibility to show leadership on a Presidential search, our Title IX roles and responsibilities, a search for a head football coach, and lawsuits both pending and imminent, three Board members are focused on what I can only guess are personal grievances. Vassar went on to say that Scott’s letter “and the false accusations underlying it are a tremendous distraction from the important work we need to do.”

Republican trustee Dan Kelly, who is the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee chair, said the school has started investigating Scott’s claims.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer is calling on MSU to get its act together. She said MSU has “no clear unified leadership” amid the governing board.

This is the latest problem to plague the embattled university. MSU fired head football coach Mel Tucker amid sexual harassment allegations, and the schools is continuing to deal with the fallout of the Larry Nassar scandal.
