BAY CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The heart of Bay City’s entertainment scene is giving its swan song.

The State Theatre board has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and canceled all future events. The move happened while an investigation continues into former Chief Operating Officer Mike Bacigalupo.

WJRT reported that Bacigalupo allegedly failed to pay performers fully and the FBI is investigating. He was removed from leadership positions with the State Theatre and Bay City government after allegations surfaced.

The theatre dates back to 1908, when it presented live entertainment as the Bijou Theatre. The facility took on the State Theatre name in the 1960s, but fell on hard times by 2000. A Friends of the State Theatre group formed to save it from demolition.

The bankruptcy filing means the court will appoint a trustee to sell off the State Theatre’s assets and pay off the facility’s debts.
