FOWLERVILLE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The town of Fowlerville in Livingston County will pay a $320,000 settlement after wrongfully accusing a man of drunk driving.
While in the U.S. on a work visa, Ryohei Akima, blew a 0.02 on a breathalyzer test in 2020.

Caitlyn Peca, a rookie officer at that time, misread the test as 0.22, nearly three times over the state’s blood alcohol limit. Officials say court records show Peca told another colleague over the radio, “I have no idea what I’m doing.”
Akima filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging that Peca’s actions violated the U.S. Constitution. Court records show the city of Fowlerville must pay the settlement through insurance.
