DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The city of Detroit will use $90 million in state and federal funding to expedite the replacement of lead service lines in the city.

Mayor Mike Duggan says the funding will allow the replacement of 8,000 lines a year instead of 700 and that will allow all outdated pipes to be replaced in the next decade.

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department will prioritize replacing lines in areas that have the most density of homes built before 1945. The city will publish a map online that will show when work is scheduled for different neighborhoods.
