MILAN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Georgia-Pacific is closing its Milan corrugated plant and laying off 119 employees.

Georgia-Pacific notified the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity earlier this month that it will close the plant at 951 County St. by July 6. The employee layoffs will be completed by July.

The company makes household and business paper products like toilet paper and paper towels.

Company officials said the decision “ultimately came down to economics and the ability of the facility to be competitive in the long term.” The company has three Michigan facilities in Albion, Owosso and Milan, with a combined 330 direct employees.
