GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Voters have unseated a Republican county commissioner in embattled Ottawa County.

Lucy Ebel lost to Democrat Chris Kleinjans by 20 percentage points in Tuesday’s recall vote.

The recall comes after months of political wrangling within the county involving former county administrator John Gibbs and the county’s health officer Adeline Hambley.

In addition, the election highlights the importance of Michigan which is expected to be a key battleground state in November’s presidential election. Former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden will be fighting for Michigan’s 15 electoral votes.
