LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Do you have a favorite teacher? Is there a special teacher who has changed the trajectory of your life? You can show your appreciation by nominating a teacher for Michigan Teacher of the Year.
The 2025-26 school year contest honors and recognizes teachers from across the state. It’s been a tradition with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) since 1952.

Applications can be found here and must be filled out by Sept. 25 at 11:59 p.m.
To be eligible for the award, the nominee must have a valid Michigan teaching certificate, at least five years of teaching experience in the state, and be in good standing with their school or district.
