LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – An exclusive poll from Michigan News Source and Mitchell Research and Communications, Inc. shows GOP candidate Mike Rogers is leading Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin in the race for U.S. Senate.

Rogers now leads in Michigan by two percent (49% – 47%). Previous Michigan News Source and Mitchell polls showed Slotkin leading by 3-5%. If Rogers is elected, it will be the first time in more than 20 years a Republican from Michigan has held a U.S. Senate seat.

The increased support for Rogers seems to tie directly to the state’s growing support for former President Donald Trump. Current polling shows Trump leading by 1% over Vice President Kamala Harris, a trend that’s been holding for about a month. Historically in Michigan, whichever political party wins the presidency also takes the Senate seat.

“The more things change the more they stay the same, and that is exactly what we are seeing in this poll,” said Steve Mitchell, President of Mitchell Research & Communications, Inc. “Although there have been interesting changes in certain crosstabs, the race continues to be where it was two weeks ago, as close as 2 pages in a book,” he said.

The margin of error for both the U.S. Senate race and the presidential poll is +/- 2.46% and the poll was conducted on Monday and Tuesday. Michigan, and its 15 electoral votes, is expected to swing the election.
