JACKSON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A police dash cam captured a chase in Jackson County that included pipe bombs being thrown from a vehicle and officers shooting at the suspect.

The Director of Police and Fire Services for the City of Jackson released the dashcam footage from two police vehicles on Monday morning. The dash cam footage shows the incident took place on Nov. 6.

Video of the chase shows it began on a residential street. A small explosion and cloud of smoke appeared next to a police cruiser. The chase led to a business area. The video shows dozens of rounds hitting and breaking the police windshield and sending sparks flying.

Officers are heard returning fire before radioing about the continued chase. One officer was shot with a bullet going through his arm and into his body. He was taken to the hospital.

Police shot the suspect, 31-year-old Jacob Austin Hikes of Onsted, at the end of the chase. He died a short time later.

Those involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending internal investigations.
