The National Weather Service confirmed Tuesday afternoon that at least nine tornadoes struck southern Lower Michigan Sunday evening during last weekend’s severe weather.
The nine areas hit include Edwardsburg, Williamston, Caledonia, Muir, Belding, Grant, Milan, Leslie and Owosso.

The strongest storm was the Williamston tornado with 110 mph winds and was on the ground for 5.3 miles.
All of the confirmed tornadoes were classified as either EF-0 or EF-1 – the lowest ratings on the five-tier Fujita scale, indicating the weakest in terms of strength and wind speed.
The storm system, with wind gusts exceeding 95 mph, turned deadly. In Kalamazoo County, three children lost their lives when a tree crashed onto the vehicle they were riding in. In Ingham County, a man was killed when a tree fell on a house.
