CHARLOTTE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – An Eaton County man faced a judge in Luce County this month for a restitution hearing related to a series of state forest campground thefts in the Upper Peninsula.
Thirty-six-year-old Justyn Mark Spitzley of Sunfield targeted several pay pipes last fall. Pay pipes serve as payment collection sites where campers deposit cash. He stole from campgrounds in Perch Lake, Lake Superior, Blind Sucker No. 1 and No. 2, and Mouth of the Two Hearted River.

In Feburary, Spitzley pleaded guilty to one felony charge of larceny of more than $1,000 but less than $20,000, and one misdemeanor charge of operating on a suspended license. He will serve one year in the Alger County Jail.
In addition, Spitzley must pay an additional $6,000 in restitution and a $2,000 reimbursement for cash recovered as evidence at the time of his October arrest.
