TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea reported a man wielding a folding knife slashed 11 people in the Traverse City Walmart on late Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff Michael Shea told Michigan News Source the incident began near the checkout lanes about just before 5:00 p.m. and proceeded through the store. Shea said it appears the suspect chose the 11 victims at random.

Those eleven victims were transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City with a variety of injuries, five of which are serious. The suspect was taken into custody immediately with the help of bystanders. Sheriff Shea says he’s thankful for the swift and coordinated response from local law enforcement.
The suspect is lodged in the Grand Traverse County jail. Sherriff Shea refused to elaborate further on what assistance citizens provided. The Walmart remains closed as the investigation continues. Officials do not believe there is any further threat to the public.
