City officials say the plans center around the construction of a permanent open-air market facility. Pending the award of a construction contract from the city of Portage, the new market facility will be built on a parcel between the Portage Zhang Senior Center and Comerica Bank, which the city owns.

The current farmer’s market is held in a parking lot behind city hall.
