DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – City Council President Mary Sheffield (D) will be Detroit’s next mayor; she’s the first woman to lead the city.
Sheffield will take office in January and succeed three-term Democratic Mayor Mike Duggan. He is not seeking reelection but is seeking a new office as he runs for governor of Michigan as an independent.

In Lansing, voters reelected Mayor Andy Schor, a Democrat, to a third term.
Multiple mayoral races in west Michigan saw incumbents victorious as well. Kalamazoo Mayor David Anderson (D) won with 55% of the vote. Muskegon Mayor Ken Johnson (D) came out on top. Holland’s incumbent Mayor Nathan Bocks (D) won with a whopping 73% of the vote.
