LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Halloween is barely in the rearview mirror. But as Michiganders take off their costumes and eat their candy, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Lansing.
Michigan’s state Christmas tree will travel from Sault Ste. Marie and arrive at the State Capitol on Saturday morning. Linda Ried donated the 68-foot spruce in honor of her grandparents, Lawrence and Nettie Richey.

“I was shocked when I found out our tree was selected as the 2025 state Christmas tree,” Ried said. “I don’t remember a time when the tree wasn’t in the backyard, but my grandparents played an integral role in my life since I was a young girl, so it means a lot to be able to make this donation in their honor.”
The Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, the Michigan Association of Timbermen, and the state’s Christmas tree crew handled the harvest. When the tree arrives in Lansing, local Boy Scouts troops will help untie the tree.
In addition, the HI-Ball Company of Lansing will volunteer a crane and crew to set the tree near Capitol and East Michigan avenues.
The tree lighting takes place Nov. 21 during Lansing’s annual Silver Bells in the City celebration.
