GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A severe round of winter weather is expected to pummel Michigan this weekend, and Consumers Energy has 200 crews around the state on standby.
Saturday and Sunday’s forecasts are expected to bring slowly accumulating snow throughout many portions of the state. Blowing and drifting snow can reduce visibility and create hazardous travel conditions.

In order to be “safe rather than sorry,” Consumers Energy recommends preparing for a power outage by:
- Charging all electronic devices.
- Setting up an emergency battery or charging station for use during an outage.
- Securing an emergency kit that includes flashlights and extra batteries, water, canned food, and blankets.
- Unplugging sensitive electronics like TVs, computers and printers.
- Turning off power strips.
- Preparing a food safety plan.
Consumers Energy is reminding everyone to stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines. Those can be reported by calling 911 and the utility at 800-477-5050. In addition, do not use generators in enclosed spaces due to carbon monoxide risks.
