SAGINAW, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – After Gov. Gretchen Whitmer dragged her feet for more than 200 days before calling for a special election, voters in the Great Lakes Bay region will finally get to vote on Feb. 3 and narrow down a list of candidates who are running to represent them in Michigan’s Senate.

Democratic U.S. Congresswoman Kristen McDonald-Rivet, who vacated her 35th District State Senate seat when voters elected her to represent Michigan’s 8th Congressional  in November 2024, endorsed the candidate she would like to fill her shoes. She’s throwing her support behind Saginaw Fire Department captain and Marine veteran Chedrick Greene for the 35th State Senate seat.

The candidates include:

  • Democrat Brandell Adams of Saginaw.
  • Democrat Martin Blank of Saginaw.
  • Democrat Chedrick Greene of Saginaw.
  • Democrat William Morrone of Bay City.
  • Democrat Pamela Pugh of Saginaw.
  • Democrat Serenity Hope Salak of Saginaw.
  • Republican Jason Tunney of Saginaw.
  • Republican Chadwick Twillman of Saginaw.
  • Republican Christian Velasquez of Midland.
  • Republican Andrew Carlos Wendt of Saginaw.

The top vote-getter in each party will advance to a special general election on May 5. The winner will serve a seven-month term until Jan. 1, 2027.
