EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Demolition of the IM West Fitness Facility on the campus of Michigan State University will move forward. The Board of Trustees approved the action on Friday.

The space would potentially be restored to be additional parking and green space.

The decision follows the board’s June 2023 approval to construct the Student Recreation and Wellness Center along Birch Road at Cherry Lane Field. The new wellness center is expected to be completed by next month and open to students in May. It will feature multiple gymnasiums and fitness studios, a climbing wall, sports simulators, table tennis and two classrooms. In addition, a 50-meter recreational pool will be available to support multiple uses, including open swim.
